“The personal, as everyone’s so fucking fond of saying, is political. So if some idiot politician, some power player, tries to execute policies that harm you or those you care about, take it personally. Get angry. The Machinery of Justice will not serve you here – it is slow and cold, and it is theirs, hardware and soft-. Only the little people suffer at the hands of Justice; the creatures of power slide from under it with a wink and a grin. If you want justice, you will have to claw it from them. Make it personal. Do as much damage as you can. Get your message across. That way, you stand a better chance of being taken seriously next time. Of being considered dangerous. And make no mistake about this: being taken seriously, being considered dangerous marks the difference - the only difference in their eyes - between players and little people. Players they will make deals with. Little people they liquidate. And time and again they cream your liquidation, your displacement, your torture and brutal execution with the ultimate insult that it’s just business, it’s politics, it’s the way of the world, it’s a tough life and that it’s nothing personal. Well, fuck them. Make it personal.

no idea if this is true, but it feels true

I heard an interview, can’t remember the psychologist, but he was explaining this idea and encouraging people to stop and take a deep breath and literally drink in small moments like you’re a dryass plant when something is ever satisfactory, positive, mildly successful, randomly joyful so your brain can code and integrate that experience because our natural lizard brain will quickly tape over it with mostly unnecessary negative survival shit. Sounds dumb and dorky but sometimes I remember this when I’m feeling good about a moment because our cave brains are still catching up with modern life without sabertooths. I like that it’s not just a pollyanna gosh just be more positive thing but more of a legit brain wiring phenomenon can be gradually hacked through small behavioral changes.

Another super important one: Take the time to tell yourself, when something you did or bought or decided works out “That was a good decision and I’m glad I made it! Go me!”

Seriously, it can have a huge impact. suddenly you go from remembering nothing but bad decisions to adding in a series of Excellent Choices You Feel Good About, and it makes things so much better.

The Will To Change by bell hooks fucked me up good

The (vulgar) slang “niquer” in french in other context relates to something hurtful, violent or brutal :
“Je me suis NIQUÉ la main” = “I HURT my hand”. Also used as “I’m gonna BEAT the shit out you” (“Je vais te NIQUER ta race”).

Same with :
“Se faire baiser”* = “To get fucked” the exact same also means “To be WRONGED”.

* NOTE : it’s rarely or never commonly used for men because it is PASSIVE (meaning a man cannot be/get fucked by a woman).

For the most part, the words related to violence/brutality can be replaced for “having sex” in some way. I’m guessing it’s the same for a lot of languages ?

In Swedish young men often use the same word for when they’re going to hurt someone, and for having sex with (well …) a woman. “Jag ska knulla dig”, roughly translated to “I will fuck you”, where the word “knulla” means hurt/beat up/destroy, and “att knulla” = “to fuck” as in “to have sex with” (always as in “doing something to someone”). Absolutely the same.

Same thing goes for German. I think the most commonly used term to describe having sex with a woman is “ficken” = to fuck, which men also oftentimes use when they’re threatening violence on one another. “Ich fick dich” = I’ll fuck you, which would mean something along the lines of, I’ll beat the shit out of you…

Same in Russian. Ебать means “to fuck”, but разъебать (same verb with a prefix раз- added to it) can be used in the same way we use “to fuck something up, to destroy it”, and ебануть/ёбнуть (still the same verb) can mean “to hit something”.

i’m gonna be real with you guys i do not give a shit about people “stealing” outdoor cats. i don’t feel bad for people who let their cat free roam and found out that someone down the block unknowingly took it in because it was neglected enough for them to think it was a stray.

because this post has been getting a fresh surge of dumb comments let me clear some things up for y'all:

-this does not say “okay, kids, go steal pets!”

-it says that i do not personally pity you for having your neglected pet stolen

-i also don’t vilify people who see a cat that is underweight, filthy, unhealthy, injured, etc and takes that cat in.

-if you are MORE upset by someone doing that than you are about the people that let a cat get to that point, you are part of the problem

-no, your specific cat is not smarter than every other cat and is just at much of risk of being killed or hurt by the many dangers of unsupervised roaming, nor is it less likely to be pariticipating in the extermination or loca wildlife

-yes, this post applies outside of the US. stop pretending it doesn’t.

There’s so much idiocy on this post.

To everyone saying “cats being outdoors makes them happier :((((”, consider why that rhetoric is never used on any other animal, why there’s no “outdoor dog” trend. Yes, animals do enjoy going outside, but it’s our responsibilty as their owners to monitor, control, and regulate their time outside, like every other animal behavior. In the same vein that dogs will want to eat chocolate but you don’t give it to them because it can kill them, animals often want shit that isn’t good for them because they don’t know any better. So it’s our job as their owner to regulate their behavior and make sure they live as happy and healthy as they can. Leashes, cat porches, and your own (catproofed) backyard are perfect for outdoors-inclined cats. You can give your cat outdoor time and keep them enriched without risking their lives.

If you don’t live on a farm, your animals should not just be Free Range. Especially not if you live in a high traffic area. Your cat is not immune to running out into the street (this applies to off-leash dogs, too! Idc how well trained a pet is, its an animal and will behave as such). Even if you do live on a farm, coyotes, hawks, and owls still exist, and so do songbirds, but I can at least understand the Barn Cat sort of relationship.

On that note, all of you non-Americans talking about how “weird” America is and that you “train your pets to not go near the road”… I literally do not care how much you “train” a pet to not approach the road… it WILL go there if you aren’t around to supervise, and its STILL in danger of getting hit by a car. I mean, the cat isn’t just going to do laps around your block, ffs, plus getting lost is a Thing. Same thing with folks like “where I live, there’s no dangers to cats!” like animal abusers aren’t universal, like cars don’t exist, like there’s an area with 0 predatory species, animals like skunks or possums, or even other stray animals. Cats can and will get their shit fucked up and its on the OWNER if it does, not the cat for being “stupid”. I don’t care how smart you think your cat is, your cat isn’t immune to hazards. And even if it doesn’t get killed….

CATS ARE NOT NATIVE TO YOUR AREA AND WILL DESTROY LOCAL WILDLIFE! They are an INVASIVE SPECIES and are known for their high prey drive. It’s incredibly selfish to let your cat roam and destroy entire ecosystems and kill billions of birds and other animals just because your cat “needs to be outside :(”. Everyone’s environmentally friendly til we mention cats are destroying ecosystems, then folks get defensive and complacent. When we domesticate animals, we have to be cognizant of the fact that they do not belong everywhere we go, and we have to take precautions to keep them from destabilizing ecosystems. One of the easiest, simplest precautions is keeping cats indoors, because the next step is euthanization. Frankly speaking, I don’t actually care how much your cat cries about not being let out, that is a behavior you can regulate and train out of your cat, or at least keep to a minimum. Your individual cat is not more important than all of the local fauna. I don’t care where you live or if you think your cat isn’t killing that much, it kills more than you see. Your. Cat. Isn’t. Special.

If you can’t train your cat properly, or can’t properly monitor their outdoor time like people have been doing with dogs for years, Don’t Get A Cat. Just because it’s a trend to let your cat free roam or it’s just what people in your area do doesn’t mean you should hop on board. Cats aren’t pets on easymode. Cats are not “meant to be outside” any more than any other animal, we just allow it for them because they’re “self-sufficient”. Either take responsibilty as an owner and learn to train your cats, or don’t get one at all. Dogs, birds, lizards, turtles, rabbits, rodents, all these other animals can live happy indoor lives, why are cats any different? Newsflash! They aren’t. If your cat isn’t happy indoors when so many other cats LOVE being indoors, when other pets lead happy indoor lives with no worries of them needing to free roam, when even dogs with high prey drives have the perfect balance of inside and outside and love being in both spaces, you need to reevaluate what you have going on that’s stressing out the animal.

I see a lot of anecdotes in the notes about pets who can’t stand being inside, and I beseech anyone with that issue to 1) look into healthy and safe ways of outdoor time, 2) look at their home and determine if it’s enriching enough for cats (full of cat towers, scratching posts, good food and clean water, toys/laser pointers, and love), 3) evaluate if you actually are taking enough time to love and play with your cat, 4) make sure your living space or your own/housemate’s/other pet’s behavior isn’t causing the cat stress. Inside is not a prison, inside is not a punishment or torture, inside is not cruelty. Inside should be exactly what inside is to humans: home. It should be safe, comfortable, and full of love, food, and play. If you honestly have all those things but they still want Out, then thats where leashes and catios come in. But never just let it be free range.

If you have an outdoor cat, and I mean a cat with complete free range not just a cat you let into your back yard, nor an indoor that manages to get out, that gets:

  • Run over (people like intentionally killing cats)
  • Killed by another animal (dogs, coyotes, predatory birds, other cats)
  • Killed by a human or used as bait (again. people like intentionally killing cats and cats are popular dog bait)
  • Injured/poisoned/badly diseased (antifreeze in water is a Thing)
  • Taken by animal control
  • Put down
  • Taken in by someone else

I don’t feel sorry for you. I feel more sorry for the cat. You chose to let your cat roam freely, so if anything happens prematurely to your pet, that’s on you. Take responsibilty for your actions as an owner and acknowledge head on what risks you’re taking. If you don’t like that, keep the damn cat inside or don’t get one at all.

[image description: screenshot of a Facebook post by Marisa Dahlman, timestamped Friday at 3:16pm. Date not specified.

Post reads as follows

I performed an emergency surgery several months ago to treat a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. The patient could have died, but we were able to stabilize her and send her home the same day.

She called my office this week in tears asking why we did not reimplant her pregnancy in her uterus, why did we not offer her this option. Because maybe her baby didn’t have to die.

Pseudoscience is invading my operating room and my relationship with my patients. This poor woman had to have emergency surgery, and then grieved the loss of a pregnancy that was never viable, that could have killed her.

And now she is grieving it again because politicians who lack even the most basic understanding of the physiology of pregnancy are dangling untruths in front of her and calling it fact.

In case anyone reading this is wondering, THIS IS NOT A THING. It is NOT POSSIBLE to reimplant ectopic pregnancies into the uterus. These are NOT viable pregnancies, and all the wishing in the world, the magical thinking, the political grandstanding, will not make it so.

End image description]

Hi friends. Quick anatomy lesson, complete with fun pictures.

This is the reproductive system in question.

image

Interesting, right? I’ve been told it looks like a shark.

In viable pregnancies, a fertilized egg (known as a zygote in biology) implants in the wall of the uterus.

image

As the pregnancy progresses, the zygote grows. Cells undergo mitosis (where the cells replicate) and differentiation (where the cells take on special jobs and become organ systems). At full term, the zygote resembles a baby we know.

image

The placenta delivers nutrients to the fetus and helps detoxify wastes. From the placenta comes the umbilical cord, which serves a similar purpose. The fetus’ head presses against the cervix, through which it will pass during birth. The part in the circle are the pregnant person’s internal organs! The uterus smooshes them to make room. It’s no wonder they use the restroom so often!

In an ectopic pregnancy, however, the zygote doesn’t implant correctly.

image

It can implant in a variety of places (including the fallopian tube, pictured) to which it is not suited.

image

After it implants, it continues to undergo mitosis (which we talked about earlier). Whereas the uterus is equipped to deal with this exponential growth, other parts of the body are not.

image

As the zygote grows, it puts immense strain on the organ it implanted in. If it continues to grow too long, it can rupture! The zygote will lose blood supply and will quickly die. The pregnant person will begin to bleed internally without proper medical care. Left alone, it can lead to death of the pregnant person.

image

This diagram is a little complex, but put very simply, because the zygote hasn’t implanted in the right place originally, it cannot be removed and implanted in the correct one. It won’t be able to fuse correctly with the uterus, or to send signals to develop the umbilical cord and placenta we talked about earlier, not to mention that the rupture causes blood to be diverted from the zygote, effectively killing it before it can be implanted.

image

Not only is it futile, but it’s unsafe for the pregnant person. Ectopic pregnancies cause blood loss, which is exacerbated by further surgical intervention. Exposure to external environments exposes the zygote to infection, and surgical implantation exposes the pregnant person to infection, which could also lead to pregnancy complication or loss.

To make a long story short: you cannot reimplant an ectopic pregnancy. Please stop trying.

Please reblog this from the person above and not from the TERFs that jumped in after. Thanks :)
